FAQs

Do you take legal aid files?

If you are charged with a serious offence and you cannot afford a lawyer we will be happy to take your case on legal aid. We strongly believe that no accused person should be left without effective representation.

What cities do you work in?

We take cases in all jurisdictions across B.C. and in the Yukon. If you have a case that you would like us to take on in other provinces, contact us and we will happy to discuss it with you.

Do I have to attend court or can you appear on my behalf?

Once you have met with us in person and retained us, we are likely able to appear on your behalf for most preliminary court appearances. There are some obvious exceptions that require you to be present in court, for example a hearing or a trial. If you need to attend the court appearance, we will provide you with ample notice so that you can make the appropriate arrangements with work, school or child care.

Do I need a lawyer if I haven’t been arrested or charged yet?

We believe it is important to speak to a lawyer as soon as you become aware or think you might be under investigation. We can help provide you with legal advice about your rights, obligations, and options so that you can avoid missteps that could harm your case in the future. We also strongly believe that there is value to engaging in discussions with Crown Counsel during the charge assessment and approval process.

Will I have to go to trial?

After assessing all the criminal law questions surrounding your case we will decide whether to recommend a trial or to negotiate a resolution. Platform Litigation is prepared to fight for you at trial and will ensure you understand all the options available to you.

How can I set up a consultation with Platform Litigation?

The best way to get answers to your criminal law questions is to set up an initial consultation. Call or email us and we will contact you to arrange an appointment. We will set up a meeting with one of our lawyers as soon as possible to discuss your case. The initial consultation is always free. If you or your loved one is in custody we will go to the jail, whenever possible, to deliver our legal advice in person.
